the unforgivable sins of today
are so few
soon the only unforgivable sin
will be not trying some of them

turns out those fearful tribes were right about the photographs
and the stealing of the soul

plastic roses stuffed in the toaster
and a flamenco dancer waiting anxiously in the corner
waiting for her cue
a tiny tiny bell sitting in the freezer
iced over and useless
just
like
your
heart.

do you have that fear
when they glance away
you might disappear?

I am made of plastic,
Paddle-pop sticks and glue.
She is made of rubber,
Coat-hangers and glitter.
Together we are the craft
people who live a normal life
beneath the stairs.

read all the books you like
but you still won’t get all the answers
you need.
Kiss all the girls you can
but you still won’t find the love
you need.

arrayed on the shelf for health there are pills
and potions and medicines yellow and blue to swallow
and take just one for relief, take two for more relief,
take them all for eternal relief, for bottles filled with passion
and heat to swallow so you will dance and fling back and forth
and sometimes after that night sigh you can get up and take something
from a bottle or box, feel that chalky pill catch in your mouth or the
liquid gulp down for relief, take one for relief, take two for more relief
take them all for eternal relief.

Let’s just lie on my bed
and listen to the radio from America
it’s hot here, with cicadas calling outside
but over there it is cold out there today folks and watch
out for the snow on the I5
and if you want to pull in for a hot coffee go
to Little Joe’s, just exit off the I5
Here, on my bed, the idea of hot coffee
is ridiculous in this heat
what are they thinking
having hot coffee on such a hot night?
